Unity Denominational Affiliations
Unity Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Christian community of people gathered by God, through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Spirit. We share a spiritual kinship with Christians around the world.
- Within the larger Lutheran community, we are part of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and the Lutheran World Federation.
- Within the larger Christian community, we are in "full communion" with the Presbyterian Church (USA), The Episcopal Church, United Church of Christ, Reformed Church in America, Moravian Church, and United Methodist Church.
Metropolitan Chicago Synod, ELCA
The Metropolitan Chicago Synod is one of 65 synods in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The synod has over 200 congregations in four counties in Illinois - Cook, DuPage, Kane, and Lake. The baptized membership of congregations in the synod is more than 100,000. The mission statement of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod is: "In Jesus' Name • Proclaim the Gospel • Make Disciples • Do Justice."
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Unity Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The ELCA is comprised of congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. "Evangelical" means to proclaim the gospel good news, and is not part of the "evangelical" non-denominational branch of Christianity.
CONGREGATIONS Nearly 10,000 congregations across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are local communities of faith-filled people celebrating, learning and connecting through weekly worship to serve others.
SYNODS Sixty-five synods throughout the country unite the work of congregations within their areas, serving as regional support and guiding pastoral and other staff candidates through the call process.

Lutheran World Federation
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a member of the Lutheran World Federation. The LWF is a global communion of Christian churches in the Lutheran tradition. Founded in 1947 in Lund, Sweden, the LWF now has 140 member churches in 78 countries all over the world representing over 68.6 million Christians. Go to their home page for more information.
